One of the Conference Committee said today, “It is a queer feeling now that the Conference is over. It was a special time, working with different people and learning a lot along the way.”
She is so right – it is a queer feeling. The journey towards COC 2016 began nearly 3 years ago. It has been quite a journey that ended on 7th May 2016 with our last Conference Committee meeting – the wind up. For all of this time, COC 2016 has been part of our lives and for some of the committee recently it has become virtually their whole lives. Now it’s over.
At the Gala Dinner on Sunday 1st May everyone was so complimentary about the Conference – the venue, the food, the speakers, the workshops, even the business sessions.
This praise all belongs to the committee which was comprised mostly of the NSW Region Executive. They were led by Chair Lesley who stepped into the breach late last year – Lesley was still Region President when she accepted the task of leading this committee. I’m not going to list all the committee here but I do want to add that not only were the lead committee members holding region positions, several of them were holding Federation positions too. Very busy ladies, all of them – but then they do say “if you want a job done well, ask a busy woman.”
I need to extend my appreciation to the management and staff of WatervieW in Bicentennial Park for presenting the venue so well, for their swift re-sets at tea and lunch times, for the great service and their fantastic food. I would also like to thank the Novotel Olympic Park for the friendship night and for the board meetings – again marvellous food and excellent service.
However, there’s no point in having a fantastic committee, marvellous planning and a great programme unless you have lots of people attending. And for that, I am sincerely grateful to the members of the clubs of Soroptimist International of the South West Pacific. We gave you a conference in an unusual location, away from the city centre, and more than 300 of you came. Thanks to you, we had a conference – we couldn’t have done it without you.
Thank you so much, SISWP. Because of you, COC 2016 was a success.
I look forward to seeing you all in Melbourne in 2018 – bring your friends and make the next Conference of Clubs bigger and better.
